BUTLEY PRIORY WEDDING VENUE
A Summer Celebration at Butley Priory
A summer celebration that was full of love. Benjamin and Matilda tied the knot in a beautiful August wedding at Butley Priory in Suffolk. With a Pimm’s reception and a VW campervan, they turned this historic setting into a wedding day that was perfect for the two of them.
They chose to both tie the knot and have their reception at this beautiful venue. Butley Priory is an enchanting place that is steeped in history. Formerly the gatehouse to an Augustine monastery, it’s a grade 1 listed building that is situated in a peaceful area of Suffolk. Surrounded by woodland it offers so many divine photography areas when it comes to your wedding day, which always excites me! Also described by Vogue as ‘one of the most romantic houses in England’ its accolades are plenty, why wouldn’t you want to get married here? For Benjamin and Matilda, it was a big fat yes!
My day started with the bridal party and their morning prep, with their matching floral gowns there was excitement in the air and plenty of tears when they saw the bride for the first time, dressed in a beautiful gown and ready to get wed.
Matilda wore a slimline ballgown with lace details and a stunning pearl veil. She carried a simple bouquet of ivory summer roses surrounded by foliage. Her maids were in teal dresses and carried simple but striking gypsophila flowers.
The romantic ceremony was housed in the stunning Vaulted Drawing Room at Butley Priory, and they said “I do” as the beautiful arched windows and historic backdrop framed them and their guests.
It was a simple drinks reception of Pimm’s on the lawn whilst I got some more intimate shots of these newlyweds. Not forgetting to include the classic VW campervan which Benjamin arrived on his wedding day in.
With a trestle table setting, the doors were wide open to let in the summer sun as they dined on a feast of seasonal and local produce. The menus and stationery suite, which were designed by Matilda’s graphic designer friend, sat proudly on the tables in beautiful teal and white tones to match the theme. This wasn’t the only personal touch; the flowers were all DIY before the day and Matilda’s Aunt also made the flowers for their eclectic cake that had the cutest little bride and groom bunnies sitting on top!
Their speeches were held in a more relaxed environment, out on the lawn as their 45 guests gathered around. After the traditional speeches, the bride and groom took to the stage for the finale, before I whisked them off for more shots at the beautiful Butley Priory.
Their day ended as all good weddings should end, with lots of laughter and lots of dancing!
Fun Fact About Benjamin and Matilda – Deelite’s Groove Is In The Heart is the song that you’ll see them race to the dancefloor together!
