NEIL SENIOR – Cambridgeshire wedding photographer
Ely Cathedral Wedding Photographer Cambridgeshire
One of the things I love most about being a Cambridgeshire wedding photographer is the stories behind each couple’s choice of venue. For Ellie and Charlie, their ceremony at Ely Cathedral couldn’t have been more personal. Both grew up spending time here – with family members working as guides and deep connections to the building. It was more than a stunning backdrop; it was part of their family history.
After getting ready at Ellie’s parents’ home in Ely, just a short drive away, the excitement really kicked in as we made our way to the cathedral. Ely Cathedral is an incredible place to photograph – the dramatic architecture, soaring ceilings, and historic details make every frame special. But what made this day truly shine was how relaxed and joyful Ellie and Charlie were from the very beginning.

Ely Cathedral ceremony
The ceremony itself was full of warmth. With family and friends gathered in such a breathtaking space, it was impossible not to feel the weight of history and personal connection. I love capturing those natural, unscripted moments – the small smiles, the nervous glances, the hand squeezes – and in a place like Ely Cathedral, those emotions are heightened tenfold.
After the “I do’s”, we made the most of the sunshine in the college gardens with canapés and fizz. Top tip: Prosecco always helps the group shots go down well.

Reception fun at Hockwold Hall
From the grandeur of Ely Cathedral, the celebrations moved on to Hockwold Hall for the reception. This venue in the heart of Cambridgeshire offers a fantastic mix of elegance and relaxed countryside charm – perfect for Ellie and Charlie’s vision of a fun, sociable day.
Guests were treated to music during the drinks reception thanks to singer Micky Fordola, setting the tone for an afternoon filled with laughter and plenty of hugs. The couple made their entrance in style, cutting the cake straight away before settling into their wedding breakfast provided by SHeFs Catering.
One of my favourite things about documentary wedding photography is capturing those moments in between – the reactions to speeches, the shared jokes, the kids running around outside – all of which were in abundance here.

DANCE FLOORS & BIG MEMORIES
When evening rolled around, Ellie and Charlie kicked off the night with their first dance to Billy Joel’s Vienna. With a live band from The Talent and a DJ taking over later in the evening, the dance floor was never empty.
As always, my focus was on documenting the day as it naturally unfolded — the laughter, the hugs, the tears, and everything in between. Ellie and Charlie wanted a wedding that felt relaxed, fun, and sociable, and that’s exactly what it was.
