NEIL SENIOR – Cambridgeshire wedding photographer
Downing College Wedding Photographer – Katie and Raoul
Katie and Raoul tied the knot on a beautiful August day at Downing College, Cambridge. A venue that blends historic charm with elegant modern spaces, perfect for their relaxed and joyful celebration. As a wedding photographer who loves capturing those candid, in-the-moment shots, this day was a dream to photograph. Plus, my eco-friendly, natural style matched seamlessly with the vibe of the day!
Downing College – The perfect Cambridge setting
Katie and Raoul chose Downing College, nestled in the heart of Cambridge, for their special day. The venue is renowned for its stunning architecture and beautiful grounds. With its picturesque quads and timeless buildings, it provided a stunning backdrop for their celebration. After the ceremony, the couple and their guests enjoyed a drinks reception on the quad. I managed to capture some fantastic shots of confetti tossing in the open space, which really added to the joyous atmosphere.
A fun-filled drinks reception
Katie and Raoul’s drinks reception was all about fun and relaxation. The couple hired circus games that kept the guests entertained while an acoustic band played soothing tunes in the background. It was a real treat to capture the moments of laughter and connection as everyone enjoyed themselves in the sunlit quad. There’s nothing better than seeing people let loose and enjoy the day, and the relaxed vibe made it so easy to capture those genuine smiles and interactions.
Thoughtful details and personal touches
One of the things I loved about Katie and Raoul’s wedding was how they infused their personalities into the day. They’re both big fans of plants, so they hired beautiful greenery from Array Wedding and Event Hire, which added a natural and refreshing touch to the decor. It gave the Grace Howard Room and Howard Building a lush, garden-like feel—perfect for my style of capturing candid, nature-inspired photos. The couple’s love of ice cream also came through with the presence of Jacks Gelato, offering up a delicious treat during the reception. Guests could cool down with some of the best ice cream Cambridge has to offer—a sweet touch that I made sure to capture through photos of kids and adults alike enjoying their scoops.
A middle-eastern inspired feast
A Middle Eastern-Inspired Feast
The Wedding Breakfast was a real highlight, featuring a Middle Eastern-inspired menu that truly reflected Katie and Raoul’s love for flavourful dishes. It was clear that they wanted their guests to enjoy a meal that was both delicious and meaningful to them. As dinner wrapped up, the heartfelt speeches began, offering plenty of moments filled with laughter, tears, and everything in between.
Evening celebrations with a twist
As the evening unfolded, the real party began! Katie and Raoul had arranged for a 9-piece band, Pfunkadactyls, to keep everyone dancing well into the night. With glow sticks, sunglasses, and a 360 video booth courtesy of Puzzlecat Productions, there were endless photo opportunities. Their first dance to “Let There Be Love” by Nat King Cole set the tone for an evening of celebration, and I couldn’t help but smile behind the camera as I captured those moments.
