Cambridge University Wedding Photographer – Christina and Matthew
Hi folks! I’m lucky enough to photograph weddings all across East Anglia, but today I want to share a recent wedding I shot in Cambridge. Christina and Matthew tied the knot in September, and it was such a special day—filled with meaningful moments and some really lovely touches. If you’re planning a wedding in Cambridge, I’d love to share some insights into this stunning day and how I can help capture yours in a relaxed, natural way.
A wedding with meaning
Christina and Matthew chose Cambridge for their wedding because it’s a place that’s close to their hearts. They spent the last three years studying there, and it’s where they met. The ceremony took place at Magdalene College, which is where Christina studied and attended chapel every week. It’s always special when a couple’s wedding venue has personal meaning. Magdalene College is such a beautiful setting—right in the heart of Cambridge.
The Ceremony at Magdalene College Chapel
The day kicked off with the ceremony at the Magdalene College Chapel, surrounded by close family and friends. With 76 guests in total, it felt intimate and personal. The chapel’s gorgeous architecture provided the perfect backdrop for some stunning candid shots, and as always, I aimed to capture those natural moments that reflect the real emotions of the day. The ceremony was the most important part for Christina and Matthew, and I made sure to focus on documenting every detail—from the vows to the looks exchanged between them.
Reception at Clayton Hotel, Cambridge
After the ceremony, we all headed to the Clayton Hotel in Cambridge for the reception. While the hotel itself didn’t have personal significance, the couple loved the old library space upstairs, where they held their cream tea reception. Who doesn’t love a scone with jam and cream after a wedding? The cream tea was a lovely, relaxed way for guests to unwind and catch up, and it also made for some great photo opportunities.
The reception was split across two areas—the Garden Suite and the Library. Guests were treated to a string quartet playing in the Library, which added a touch of elegance to the afternoon. Meanwhile, downstairs in the Garden Suite, there was a sweet cart for everyone to help themselves. These little details really made the day feel special, and I made sure to capture them all.
A Relaxed, Natural Photography Style
One of the things I pride myself on is my natural, documentary style of photography. I’m not one for stiff, posed shots. Instead, I aim to capture the day as it unfolds—candid moments, real emotions, and all the little details that make a wedding unique. Christina and Matthew’s day was full of those moments, from the heartfelt ceremony to the laid-back vibe of the cream tea and the fun of the sweet cart.
