2023 WEDDING TRENDS IN THE UK
2023 Wedding Trends for A Contemporary Wedding Day
With a pause on weddings in recent years, 2023 is the first full year where we will see a uninterrupted wedding season and the start of a re-invented era of weddings trends. 2023 is an exciting time to be planning. My top trend has to be planning a wedding that’s perfect for you, a wedding that suits your needs and a wedding that’s an experience for your guests. Are you with me? Let’s take a look at some of my other favourite 2023 wedding trends for the year ahead and hopefully some that are here to stay for the future.
A trend that’s been growing day by day and year by year and I’m most definitely up for it. As a sustainable wedding photographer, this one had to come top of my 2023 wedding trends. It’s all about thinking greener when it comes to your big day. Upcycling is a great way to do this, from your décor to your accessories. Samphire Vintage Prop Hire offer an eclectic range of vintage, reclaimed and preloved prop and furniture hire for weddings and events. Rent where you can including your wedding day attire and think carefully about how much you actually need. Searching for sustainable bridal wear and accessories I recommend a chat with bridal designer Tatty’s Original and Petal and Metal Bridal. Can your wedding day favours be scrapped? Or are they useful enough for your guests? There is nothing that’s bad about this trend as it’s all about helping to save our beautiful planet.
Sustainability is at the core of everything I do and to offset my carbon footprint I do all I can, including donating 2% of my profits to rewilding charities. For each wedding, I also donate a tree through the Norfolk Woodland Trust. You can read more about my ethical credentials here.
I Do Crews
Wedding days should include your closest confidants. The archaic tradition that your maid of honour should be female, or your best man should be male is ‘so last season’ so to speak. Couples are choosing the people they want by their side and snubbing traditional acts to carve a wedding that’s perfect for them. Exactly the way it should be and this is definitely one of the 2023 wedding trends that should be here to stay.
Intimate Weddings and Elopements
A concept that isn’t new but a trend that has been formed from post-pandemic weddings that have shown that weddings can be just as beautiful no matter how big or small. Some couples are choosing to have a low-key day with just the two of them and a party later. This is something that has been popularised by the “marry now, party later” trend that swept restricted weddings. This is great, especially if you are a couple that has a set budget or you’re a couple that doesn’t like to be the centre of attention. Plus, what’s more romantic than ‘running away’ to get wed?
Alternative First Dances
If you’re not a couple that wants to romantically sway around the dancefloor with all eyes on you then this 2023 wedding trend might just be perfect for you. Alternative first dances are all the rage. From replacing it with a couple’s toast to having an all-guest group dance along. And, if you don’t want a first dance then skip it altogether!
With the recent wedding boom, humanist ceremonies are now more popular than ever. Due to the lack of licensed venue spaces, using a humanist celebrant gave couples more choices when it came to where they could say their vows. So, whether you’re wanting to get married in your favourite restaurant or at the top of a mountain, the world is quite literally your oyster. It’s one of the biggest 2023 wedding trends and I can see why. Rachael-Jean is an awesome UK humanist celebrant who crafts and conducts personalised ceremonies throughout the UK.
